Professional quality guidesticks, designed with the help of some of the best guides in the business. After testing prototypes in daily use, we are confident that we are making a tough product that will provide many years of service. Our guidesticks boast a number of features and options not found in other products.
For company and outfitter use, we recommend our standard shaft, using high grade 6061-T6, 0.06inch wall aluminium tubing covered with an abrasion resistant Dynel sleeving. For a more natural feel that is kinder on the joints, we produce wood shaft guidesticks to order with hardwood shafts covered with a carbon fibre sleeve. For an exceptionally light but strong guidestick, we make a hollow composite shaft using layers of carbon fibre with an exterior Kevlar layer.
Length options - The total length of our standard guidestick is 163cm (64in), other lengths are available as special orders.
KevlarTM reinforced blade - The outer layers of the blade are reinforced with 2 layers of woven Kevlar fibre and epoxy resin for superior abrasion and crack resistance.
Integrated tip - An abrasion resistant dynel tip is bonded directly to the facing layers for improved paddle integrity, giving many years of service.
Blade size - Our standard guidesticks have a 21cm x 46cm (8.25in x 18in) blade - big enough for guiding even heavy 12 person rafts. We can also produce guidesticks a large blade which is 21cm x 62cm (8.25 x 24.5in).
Personalisation and Branding - The Shaggy Designs logo is incorporated into each side of the blade layup during manufacture as standard. For a small additional charge, your personalised logos can also be added, subject to a maximum size of 6cm x 12.5cm (2.5in x 5in). Logos should be supplied as .jpg, .gif or .doc files. Our standard construction uses a clear resin, giving the blades the yellow colour of natural Kevlar. Coloured blades are available on request, but are slightly heavier and also incur an additional charge. Coloured aluminium shafts are available at no extra charge.
T grip options - Our aluminium shafts are supplied with plastic T grips as standard. Each wooden shaft is finished with an individually crafted T grip. These are attached securely with an ovalled mortise and tenon joint, and will easily stand up to the stresses of re-flipping a raft using the T grip hooked into the outside line!
